When to go
April is spring in New York, and the tourism board's weather guide describes budding flowers, light winds and rain, with temperatures from cool to very warm. NOAA's normals for Central Park give the usual highs, lows, precipitation and snowfall. The New York International Auto Show runs into the first days of the month, and The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden continues until late in the month. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden says its flowering cherries bloom from late March or early April through mid May and that the weather affects the timing, so check the garden's updates close to your dates. New York City Ballet's spring season opens in the second half of the month.

Flights
The tourism board lists JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty as the three major airports in the area, so compare flights into each against how you will reach your stay. JFK's own site says the subway or Long Island Rail Road connects to the AirTrain, which needs a separate fare. Domestic flyers should also read the TSA's REAL ID page, which says travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights. The tourism board also says cherry blossoms can be seen in Central Park and on Roosevelt Island as well as in Brooklyn, so you can compare spots by how easily you can reach them.
