When to go

MeteoSwiss lists September normals for its Zürich Fluntern station, so compare them with June and July when you choose a month and check a forecast before you go. Zürich Tourism dates Knabenschiessen, which it describes as a public festival open to all visitors, and the Zurich Film Festival, which runs from late in the month into October. It also lists Knabenschiessen among the city's additional public holidays and says stores are generally closed on public holidays, so check opening hours around the festival.

Getting around

The Zurich Transport Network says a single ticket shows its zones and validity times and allows unlimited travel on all modes of transport within those zones, so compare the zones you need with the trips you expect to make. It says tickets can be bought from a machine, in its app or online. Zürich Tourism notes that only stores at the main station, the airport and gasoline stations are open on Sundays and public holidays, which matters if a festival day falls on one.
