When to go

July is warm in Venice's climate normals listed here, with some rain days, so check a forecast closer to your dates. Besides its Blue and Orange airport lines, Alilaguna's home page also lists a seasonal summer airport line, the Red Line, so check its timetables for the days you travel. The city's access-fee site says its trial period has ended and that any fee in later years is for the city to decide, so check that site before you travel, especially for a day trip.

Flights

From Marco Polo Airport, Alilaguna's water-bus lines stop at points across the city, including Rialto, San Marco and the railway station, while the city transport company's airport buses use their own tickets. For entry, the EU's official travel site says the Entry/Exit System is fully operational at external border crossing points and that ETIAS is not in operation, so check that site and the State Department's page for Italy before you go. Check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.

Where to stay

Compare stays by how close they are to a waterbus stop and, if you are flying in, to a stop on the Alilaguna line you plan to use from the airport, such as Rialto or San Marco. Check cancellation terms, and compare whether a timed ticket or a multi-day pass suits your plans.

Getting around

The city's public transport company sells timed tickets for the waterbus network and says you must validate your ticket at the start of each journey and every time you change boats or vehicles. Its ordinary tickets do not cover the Alilaguna lines or trips to and from the airport, so check which ticket matches each leg of your day.
