Reykjavík in August
When to go
Visit Iceland says Culture Night, or Menningarnótt, is held in Reykjavík each August, and Visit Reykjavík says the Reykjavík Jazz Festival takes place at the end of the month. Commerce Day, a holiday in early August, changes the city's bus timetable, so compare your dates with it. The WMO table for Reykjavik lists the month's average daily high, low and rainfall, so check those figures and a current forecast before you pack.

Flights
Keflavík Airport lies on the Reykjanes peninsula, away from Reykjavík, according to the airport operator's own site, so build the transfer into your plan. If your trip covers the Commerce Day holiday, check each carrier's and transfer provider's current schedule before you commit. Strætó, the capital area's public transport operator, lists a bus route between the airport and the capital area.

Where to stay
With events in the city this month, compare an area close to the centre with Vesturbær, which Visit Reykjavík's neighbourhood guide describes as a quieter alternative to Miðbær that is still close to the main attractions. Weigh walking distance to the places on your list against how much noise you want around your lodging. Check cancellation terms and whether your dates overlap with Culture Night or the jazz festival.
