When to go

July brings the national holiday on the fourteenth. In its latest published edition the City of Paris moved the fireworks to the evening before and kept the military parade on the day, so check the city's site for the current programme. Paris Plages ran from early July to the end of August at the Parc Rives-de-Seine in its latest published edition, so look for the next dates there. Météo-France lists July climate normals for Paris-Montsouris, and the city adds night-time park openings in July and August as part of its heat measures.

Where to stay

The Paris tourist office groups places to stay by area, from the Marais to Bastille to the quiet residential streets of the fifteenth arrondissement, and says each district differs in character, price range and accessibility. If the Champ-de-Mars fireworks are on your list, note that the city places them in the seventh arrondissement, which the tourist office groups with the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides, and compare walking distances from other areas. Check cancellation terms and whether your dates overlap with the holiday and the events.

Getting around

The Paris tourist office says that, mainly in summer, several metro and RER lines can be partly closed or modified for works, so check the status of each line on the days you travel. If you plan to attend evening events such as the fireworks, check the line status for your return journey too. The tourist office points visitors to the Île-de-France Mobilités website for tickets and travel passes.
