When to go

The Hong Kong Observatory says many people regard November and December as the best months of the year, with pleasant breezes, plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures, though November is still within the months when tropical cyclones may strike, and its normals average only a fraction of a day with a warning signal in November. The Hong Kong Tourism Board lists WinterFest, with its Christmas Town, for November and December.

Flights

The Airport Express links the airport with Central, with Kowloon and Hong Kong stations offering in-town check-in, so compare the whole journey when you look at flights, and check the airlines directly for current schedules. For entry, the Immigration Department lists a visa-free period for visits on a United States passport and expects visitors to hold onward or return tickets and enough funds, so confirm what applies to you there and on the State Department's page for Hong Kong. Check the Hong Kong Observatory for any tropical cyclone warnings before you travel.

Where to stay

The tourism board's accommodation finder sorts hotels into Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands, so compare areas by how close they are to an MTR or Airport Express station. Since a tropical cyclone remains possible, weigh flexible cancellation terms, and check whether a room rate includes the Hotel Accommodation Tax described by the Inland Revenue Department.
