Florence in June

When to go

June in Florence opens with the national Republic Day holiday, and the city's official tourism site places the final of the Calcio Storico on the feast of its patron saint, Saint John the Baptist, with the evening ending in fireworks launched from Piazzale Michelangelo. The climate normals listed here give warm highs and some rain days, so check a forecast closer to your dates. If you plan to visit the Uffizi Galleries on a free-admission Sunday, note that reservations are not taken on those days.

Flights

The city's official tourism site describes Florence's airport at Peretola as a short tram ride from the city centre, with frequent services. For entry, the EU's official travel site says the Entry/Exit System is fully operational at external border crossing points and that ETIAS is not in operation, so check that site and the State Department's page for Italy before you go. Check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.

Where to stay

Compare stays by how easily you can reach the tram and the museums on your list, and by whether your dates overlap the patron saint's feast. The city's official tourism site says the tourist tax depends on the type and classification of your lodging and is charged per person and per night, so read those rules and check cancellation terms. If you plan to arrive by car, the historic centre sits inside a restricted traffic zone, so check how each property handles access.

Getting around

Florence's restricted traffic zone covers much of the historic centre on weekdays and Saturdays, and the city's official tourism site says a summer night-time zone adds late hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in June. Read the zone's published hours before you drive anywhere near the centre, and compare that with the tram for trips between the airport and the city.
