When to go

August is hot in the climate normals listed here, with a few rain days, so check a forecast closer to your dates. The city's official tourism site lists the feast of San Lorenzo, Florence's co-patron, in the second week, and the Assumption in mid-month is a national public holiday, so check opening days for any site on your list around those dates.

Flights

The city's official tourism site describes Florence's airport at Peretola as connected to the centre by tram, and lists a fixed taxi fare to the historic centre with surcharges for luggage, nights and holidays. For entry, the EU's official travel site says the Entry/Exit System is fully operational at external border crossing points and that ETIAS is not in operation, so check that site and the State Department's page for Italy before you go. Check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.

Where to stay

Compare stays by how easily you can reach the tram, buses and the museums you plan to visit. The city's official tourism site says the tourist tax depends on the type and classification of your lodging and is charged per person and per night, so read those rules and check cancellation terms around the mid-August holiday. The Uffizi Galleries price tickets bought ahead differently from tickets bought on the day, so compare both on the museum's own site.
