When to go

July falls in the middle of the dry season that Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism describes for Bali, though it notes that the seasons have become less predictable. The meteorological agency's normals for Denpasar, via the World Meteorological Organization, show hot days, warm nights and only a few rain days, so plan for the heat.

Flights

Indonesia's official eVisa site lists a visa on arrival for United States passport holders visiting for tourism, and the immigration service asks all travelers to submit an arrival card in the days before they arrive, through the All Indonesia service. Read both official pages while you compare flights, see the State Department's page for Indonesia for US government guidance, and check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.

Where to stay

Bali's provincial government charges foreign tourists a levy once per trip, and its Love Bali site strongly encourages paying online before you travel, so add it to your plans alongside your stay. Compare cancellation terms and check how far each option is from the airport and from the places on the island you most want to see.

Getting around

The airport's website says taxis in the arrival area use metered or fixed fares depending on the provider, and that the Trans Metro Dewata public bus links the airport with Mengwi Terminal and areas such as Kuta and Nusa Dua, so compare transfer options before you land. Bali follows Indonesia Central Standard Time, so check pickup times against that zone. The levy can also be paid at the airport counter, but the Love Bali site recommends paying online before departure to ease arrival and emails a levy voucher with a QR code as proof of payment, so keep it to hand when you land.
