When to go

The World Meteorological Organization's normals for Auckland, supplied by the New Zealand National Meteorological Service, list the typical highs, lows and precipitation for March. MetService says ex-tropical cyclones most commonly affect New Zealand in February or March, so check its forecasts and warnings close to your dates. Employment New Zealand lists Good Friday and Easter Monday late in the month, the Pasifika Festival is set for the second weekend, and the Auckland Arts Festival runs for much of the month.

Flights

Immigration New Zealand lists the United States among its visa waiver countries and says passport holders need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority before they travel, so read its pages while you compare flights. The same agency explains the International Visitor Levy that many tourists pay when they request one, and the government's Traveller Declaration site says every traveller must also complete a declaration, which can be submitted up to a day before the trip begins. Auckland Transport's airport services page describes the AirportLink bus from the international terminal to Puhinui Station. For US government guidance, see the State Department's page for New Zealand, and check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.
