When to go

The WMO averages listed above point to warm days, cooler nights and low rainfall in June, though they come from a past period, so treat them as a guide and not a forecast. Athens' official visitor guide lists the Day of the Holy Spirit as a public holiday with variable dates, so check the date for your year. It also places the Athens and Epidaurus Festival from the start of June to late August, so look at the festival's own programme for dates and venues.

The EU's official travel site lists Greece among the countries using the Entry/Exit System and says ETIAS is not yet in operation, so recheck both pages and the State Department's page for Greece before you fly. Check the airlines directly for current flight and route information.

Where to stay

The city's visitor guide says to read its neighbourhood guides before booking, and it contrasts staying downtown with a more laid back local vibe or a base on the Athens Riviera. Compare areas it covers, such as Plaka, Acropolis and Koukaki, Monastiraki and Psirri, Glyfada or Vouliagmeni, by walking distance to your list and access to transport. Then check cancellation terms and whether your dates overlap the public holiday.

From the airport, its site lists the airport metro line to the city centre and Piraeus, plus express buses to Syntagma, Piraeus, the intercity bus stations and Elliniko.
