Amsterdam in June

When to go

KNMI's long-term climate averages for Schiphol, listed in the facts above, give June's average daily high and low and show rain on a share of the month's days, so a light rain layer is worth a place on your packing list. The Holland Festival's performing arts programme runs throughout June, and the Open Garden Days open Amsterdam's canal gardens to the public over a long weekend later in the month, with dates the I amsterdam calendar says are subject to change. Check both against your trip dates.

Flights

Amsterdam Schiphol is the city's airport, and the airport's own website describes a train link to Amsterdam Central Station that runs several times an hour. Check the airlines directly for current flight and route information. The EU's official travel site says the Entry/Exit System is now fully operational at external border crossings and that ETIAS, the planned travel authorisation, is not yet in operation, so read that site and the State Department's page for the Netherlands for current entry rules before you book.

Where to stay

Compare whether the nightly rate you are shown includes the municipal tourist tax, which the City of Amsterdam sets as a percentage of the overnight price excluding VAT and applies to hotels, apartments and short-stay rentals alike. If you are weighing an apartment-style stay, read the city's holiday rental page too: it says a registration number is needed and must appear in listings, so look for it. Then check cancellation terms and whether your dates overlap with the Holland Festival or the Open Garden Days.

Getting around

GVB, the city's public transport company, says you can check in and out with your debit card and do not need to register first. The Schiphol airport website describes the train from the airport to Amsterdam Central Station as frequent, which makes it an easy first leg into the city. Check GVB's travel information for works and diversions before you set out each day.
